Algiers, Algeria

Algiers is the capital of the Algeria, the largest country from Africa and Arab Worldย inย North Africa. Who is from Europe, like me, most probably heard (at max few times) ย about this country at Geo classes at school. If I think how insignificant the map world was to me at that age and how far from any imagination was Algeria in my travel list(not that I would have any travel list at that time. Now I am literally touching the land of the countries I would never dare to imagine that I would reach one day. Algeria came as a surprise on my flying roster and my excitement went over 30 thousand feet. I haven’t googled anything. I love to discover everything with my own eyes. Luckily I got an advice from a Moroccan colleague to pack winter clothes a day before my trip. Not so lucky many of my colleagues that thought Alger is a country with warm temperature (Africa, right?! :D) and they end up with flip flops for all 3 days. Once thereย I realised that my little French that I caught from TV5 when I was little girl might be helpful. At least to say “Bonjour” and “Mercy” when need it. People speak French as the country was ย part of French colonial empire (visit the Memorial Museum to learn more). The capital looks like a little Paris in fact. The main street is called Champs ร‰lysees and you’ll be surprised to hear this – there is even a Notre dame d’Africa in Algiers. ย The cityย surprised me with picturesque green areas, gardens, trees, palms (Jardin d’Essai), blue-blue sea and such a great sky. I felt obsessed with the sky and clouds. I almost dropped my phone from the window trying to catch the perfect pictures for my Instagram ๐Ÿ˜€ While hiking here and there in the city everyone were staring at us. At that point I noticed that we were the only tourists in the city. Everyone I met on that day and the next days were so nice to us. This is something that you would remember always – the way people made you feel. Algeria is probably not the top countries to visit but has a lot to offer. It might be very interesting for those of you who are passionate about history and culture. Algeria was dominated by many empires and dynasties. Aren’t you curious to see with your own eyes the mix of two such a different cultures as Arab and European?! ย Another interesting fact for Spanish Literature students: Miguel de Cervantes were captured in Algiers, where he actuallyย wrote the famous novel Don Quixote.ย Now you have few reasons to travel Algeria ๐Ÿ™‚ Have a great weekend!
